Starla was raised in Casper, WY and is a long time resident of Wyoming. She received her Bachelors' of Science degree in nursing from the University of Wyoming in 1990. She worked as an OB nurse, lactation consultant and childbirth educator for several years before returning to school to obtain her Masters' degree in nursing and nurse-midwifery certification from Case Western Reserve University and Frontier University in 2003. She has been practicing as a certified nurse-midwife in Rock Springs, WY now for 20 years. She is married to Tony Yerkovich and had 3 wonderful sons. She enjoys supporting her sons playing hockey, football, and soccer and spending time during the summers at Bear Lake, UT.
